A Lonely Orphan Receives Hope and a Future
Your support helped reunite Nway with her family
“Are you telling me the truth? The orphanage director is actually allowing me to return home to visit my family?”, doubtfully asked Nway. A social worker from Kinnected Myanmar, an organization which you help support, had just told Nway the good news and she was overjoyed!
Nway lost both of her parents when she was seven years old. After her parents’ deaths she and her two sisters went to live with their grandmother; however, due to her age she couldn’t provide for her three granddaughters for long.
When Nway’s grandmother heard of an orphanage that was accepting children she made the painful decision to send Nway there. Nway was not happy at the orphanage and often cried herself to sleep because she missed her grandmother, her two sisters and her friends in the village. She felt lonely, rejected and excluded.
However, one year after being admitted to the orphanage, Nway met a social worker from Kinnected Myanmar. Nway expressed to the social worker that she was lonely and wanted to return home. The social worker was able to arrange a visit and soon Nway was seeing her grandmother again!
During this time it was discovered that her grandmother’s situation had changed. One of Nway’s older sisters had gotten married and the other one had found employment. To Nway’s great joy, it was decided she would not return to the orphanage but would remain with her grandmother and sister.
Life hasn’t been perfect since then. Soon after returning home, Nway’s grandmother passed away. Also, with the violence of the military coup, there has been a lot of unknowns for her future, but Kinnected Myanmar has been there for her through it all.
Nway is now placed under Kinnected Myanmar’s care leaver support program and receives support to attend vocational training. “I want to become a nurse and support my family and those who need help with my income. I am now full of hope to chase my dream,” said Nway enthusiastically.
